MAYTAG HELP! My Maytag ';regular fabric wash'; does not work but the ';wrinkle free fabric wash'; cycle works

There was a burning smell and the ';regular fabric'; wash just stopped. I tried turning the button in various positions but nothing happened. When I turned the knob to the ';wrinkle free fabrics'; wash it worked perfectly. Any one knows what the problem is? I would appreciate any help.MAYTAG HELP! yes it sounds like burnt out timer. not hard to replace, unplug washing machine, access the timer, you may have to undo a few screws to gain access. copy down model of washer call local appliance parts store. get new one and install it replace panels screws etc.
