How do I get fabric paint to set in and not wash out?

I do airbrushing on fabrics...all kinds. Also, I use fabric glitter sprays and such.

The paint I use is just for fabrics and I've washed them and the color got lighter after one wash.

Could I use something like scotchguard to help protect the painting and glitter from washings? Or, is there another way?

I used to set the colors of my stitching with vinegar and water. I used about 1/2 cup of white vinegar to a sinkful of cold water. Allow it to soak for a couple of hours, launder as usual.
